It is reported that US National Renewable laboratory has fund a new permanent magnet alloy and assert that this alloy are not contained rare earth but can also working at high temperature.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory did research about advanced materials. This Lab shows that they have fund a new permanent magnetic alloy from Hafnium cobalt and boron. Most of magnets that can resist high temperatures are made by samarium and cobalt.
Michael McGuire, a co-developer of Oak Ridge National Laboratory said that this alloy is as good as those permanent magnetic alloys which are not contained rare earth materials for it can also work in condition of high temperature. Additionally, this new permanent magnetic alloy could guarantee operating in extremely high temperature which other materials containing rare earth can not. At present the application of patent is still up in the air, scientists believe that the new alloy can relieve the potential pressure of supplying professional magnet in the new energy industry. They also believe that scientists can solve the shortage of rare earth in the future and reduce the processing cost of these elements.
